2014.08.09 Update:
Been a little better than a month but finally spotted the eagle in one of his normal spots
Let’s hope they rebuild the nest!
From Kathy Sanberg:
The eagles’ tree blew down this week. We discovered one eaglet on the ground yesterday. (The other had been killed when the tree fell. ) The Raptor Center sent someone to get it this morning. Amazingly, the eaglet does not have a broken wing or any broken bones, but does have internal injuries. It was thin and dehydrated, but the parents were bringing it food. There were two fresh fish there this morning. They will release it back to the area of the nest with the hope that the parents will continue to take care of it.
All, please watch for the grown eagles and let the homeowners list or the Marahalls know if they are still around during the next few weeks? The Sanberg’s will be out of town for two weeks and the Raptor Center may need to know if the parents are around when they release it, which could be as early as a few days.
Thanks all!
Thanks to all who have been involved with this. Nice story but sad news.
Dear All,
I found out yesterday from the Raptor Center that the eaglet had to be euthanized. It’s injuries were too severe and it’s shoulder was broken through the joint and could not be fixed. Very sad.
I hope the parents will build a new nest on Largon; I would miss them a lot. If anyone sees activity, please let the rest of us know.
Have a great Fourth of July.
I’m pretty sure many saw the eagles overhead this weekend like we did. Never observed them perched in the trees like normal but we did spot one multiple times each day then on Saturday we saw both of them overhead near the North side of the lake. It appeared they were going back and forth between Little Largon.
