Calling All Volunteers – As of 12/26 we have about 6-7″ of ice on the lake, with a little slush on top of it, but think it’s time we schedule the aeration fencing installation.
We will be putting up the Aeration Fencing on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 10 a.m. NOTE: We no longer need jugs this year. We’ll be working with the new “fun noodles” as we did last year. Please meet the group by the pump shed at the end of the Hansen/Applen properties (picture below).
We would also be appreciative of anyone who can bring ice augers and 1/2 and 3/4 inch bits and battery powered drills.
Please contact and RSVP to Corrie Behling (corriebehling at gmail.com).
Photos from 12/2019 showing the new reflectors and “noodle”/post system we’re trying this year – thanks Bob Rose
1/7/2017 – It was a gold day, -5 degrees, -18 windchill, but we had about 8 adults and 2 children show up allowing us to finish in a little more than an hour. The wind was heavy but we also took the time to prepare some poles with the new reflectors so we’ll see how those do this year. Thanks to everyone that participated.
1/7/2018 – Well it was a heck of a year this year. I went to bed on Friday night feeling a bit run down only to toss and turn all night as the cold I had been fighting flared up and landed in my chest. I was unable to attend.
But thanks to many brave (eleven I understand) sub zero heroes it got done. A recap from Marv:
We had minus 20 degrees at 6 a.m. Two volunteers reported minus 21 degrees. It warmed up to minus 14 at 10 a.m. start up time. The windchill was definitely lower. Feet and hand warmers felt good.
There was like eleven sub zero heroes/volunteers that showed up. Bob Rose, Jim Paulick, Steve Friendt, Jr.Barry Vaughn, Dave Clausen’s son Matt and grandson, Mol Singh, Paul Frank, and a new guy near the creek that just bought last year, and myself/Marv.
The solar lights fit on top of the scrawny plastic poles, every 3rd pole. We used up the ball of twine that was already started which was a problem and there were kinks, knots and tangles to deal with! The ice was 18 inches or more. Steve Friendt Jr. had his ice augur and got in his 18 holes without a golf club! It was tense moments as the drilled holes weren’t showing any action, but by noon the geysers were appearing and we called it a day.
From the lake webcam you can see the holes developing nicely this morning.
1/17/2019: A big thank you to Bob Rose who spent 3 hours adding 16 more poles, jugs, and twine as the size of the area grew during the warm weather. The ice is only about 7: thick where the holes for the poles were drilled so clearly the ice is thinner quite a distance from the open water – be safe!
